Country: United States Region: Rogue Valley, Southern Oregon Grape: Viognier
Del Rio Vineyards and Winery is a family-run business and the home of one of the finest vineyards in Southern Oregon. It is located at historic Rock Point, in the beautiful Rogue River Valley. Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,000 feet, it enjoys great climate benefits, and the rocky south-facing slopes of the vineyards drain well, providing excellent terrain for producing premium wine grapes. (The 2015 growing season was record breaking, earliest harvest ever.)
Their 100% Viognier was produced entirely from estate grown fruit on vines that are all 01 Clone. Total production of this pale gold nectar with greenish hues was 1,200 cases. Your favorite Wine of the Month Club is proud to provide you with this limited wine. It embodies a rich and exotic style with tropical fruit and a gentle note of toast on the nose. The creamy mouthfeel is balanced by a well embedded acidity which adds both contrast and length to the mouthfeel. The finish ripples with minerality, while the fruit lingers to complete the wine experience.
It is ready to be enjoyed now. Serve chilled on its own or as an aperitif or with canapes, pork cutlets, turkey breast tonnato, seared scallops and chicken breast with prosciutto and Fontina. Also great with sushi, Thai dishes and shellfish.
VIOGNIER GRAPES — With roots in France’s Northern Rhone region, Viognier grapes make wines rich and delightfully aromatic. Also used to soften and add complexity to blends. This is a solitary shy-bearing vine that produces the famous superbly dry wines of Condrieu and Château Grillet from the Rhône Valley. A main player in France’s elite, it is coming into its own in other areas, including superb wines from the rich soils of America’s own Northwest.
