The Veneto is located in the Northeast of the Italian Peninsula, and is one of its leading wine producers. The region was founded by the Romans. Both the Veneto region and the province of Venice derive their names from the original Latin name for the area. This region counts for more than 20 DOC zones and a variety of sub-categories. Many of its wines are internationally known and highly appreciated. In 1885 the importance of winemaking there was underscored by the creation of the first Italian school for vine growing and oenology. Veneto was the first region to constitute the first “wine road.”
The pre-Alpine territory of the province of Treviso is sandwiched between the Gulf of Venice and the Italian Alps. It’s an area of ideal wine-growing habitat with clay-type soils.
A widespread grapevine of French origin, Pinot Grigio, with its small clusters of purple-gray fruit, is the singular ingredient of this pale straw yellow wine with the copper hues. An intense floral bouquet suggests wisteria, pears and green apples. On the palate it has a harmonious fruit flavor, well-balanced with a long lasting finish. Enjoy it now, chilled, with light appetizers, soups, fish, and white meat dishes. Especially delicious with risotto al radicchio and risotto di bruscandoli, two popular native dishes.
PINOT GRIGIO GRAPES — Also identified as Pinot Gris and Rulander, this white grape with a hint of lavender is capable of producing superior rich, complex wines. Its spiciness is seldom encountered in other varieties. This grape is responsible for many grand flavored, sweet fortified wines produced throughout the world with hues from white to yellow to slightly pink in color. The skin of this grape is more hued than most other whites, but be assured the grape is a true white. It originated in France as a mutation of Pinot Noir.
