What began in 1996 as a sincere experiment of 100 cases of hand-bottled, hand-labeled beer (hand-delivered out of the back of founder Jeremy Cowan’s grandmother’s Volvo), has grown into a 200,000+ case per year operation. In 2012, their annual capacity of 12,000+ barrels of brew equated to a gross of $3.9 million in sales, a 42% increase over the previous year. The Shmaltz Tribe honors their contract brewing roots, embracing the continued miracle of their home in Clifton Park. Making the best of the expansion at their 50-barrel playground for brewing exceptional specialty beers, they continue hosting a growing family of enthusiastic consumers.

Ranked in 2013 as one of the “Top 10 Brewers in the World” by RateBeer.com, Shmaltz won 9 Gold and 5 Silver Medals in the World Beer Championship in 2012. A recipient of the “Distinguished Business Award” by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Shmaltz was also included in the “Top 50 Fastest-Growing Bay Area Companies” by the San Francisco Business Times.

The country’s first and still only Jewish Celebration beer provider has sold upwards of 10 million bottles. Their offerings are available in more than 30 states through 35+ wholesalers at specialty shops across the country. Your favorite Beer of the Month Club is stoked to be on board with Shmaltz by bringing you these quality examples:

Hop Manna IPA is dry hopped with Centennial, Cascade and Citra, the answer to every hop head’s prayer. Crafted to provide session after session of hop nourishment, from their Tribe to yours.

Now available year ’round, Slingshot Lager is Shmaltz’s newest American Craft Lager. Boasting a bright, citrus-like hop aroma, supported by touches of wheat and rye, Slingshot is guaranteed to strike the craft beer bulls-eye every time.

FYI: “Shmaltz” is Yiddish for “excessive sentimentality in art and music.”
