Vintage 2015, White) Country: Italy  Region: Grosseto  Grapes: Trebbiano & Chardonnay

The Cantina Cooperativa Vignaioli del Morellino di Scansano was founded in 1972, with 152 mem-

bers whose vineyards spread over the hills around the village of Scansano, in the southernmost part of Tuscany. The area is known as Maremma Grossetana and the vineyards taper toward the Tyrrhenian Sea, covering about 1100 acres. Soil composition varies greatly. The average member has no more than 5 acres of vineyards, which is tended by his entire family. This closeness allows all of them to monitor their vines with the care one would usually dedicate to a personal garden, but under the guidance of an agronomist.

In the bottle (which sports a pig, loved for its meat and its ability to find highly treasured truffles) is a blend of 85% Trebbiano and 15% Chardonnay from vines averaging 15 to 20 years of age. Intense straw yellow in color, it has fresh menthol, white fruit and flower fragrance with slight salty mineral notes. It is dry and full bodied with a long persistence.

It anticipates your enjoyment, served soon, chilled, with soups, fish, light pasta dishes or white meats.

Vignaioli Bianco di Pitigliano Superiore DOC:

TREBBIANO GRAPES — Also called Ugni Blanc, this white variety usually makes light, even, well structured wines. Some benefit from distilling. With few exceptions, most Trebbiano wines are light, fresh and unpretentious that are easy and enjoyable to drink with a variety of foods.

CHARDONNAY GRAPES — This, the finest dry white wine grape in the world, grows successfully in virtually every commercial winemaking area. Not only is it the producer of the great white Burgundies, it is one of the three major grapes used in champagne. It’s a relished “ingredient grape.” With perfect growing conditions, the quality is unequaled.
