Mint is the broad label applied to a number of aromatic plants native to Europe, Asia and Australia. Today it is grown in most regions of the world where vegetation flourishes. The smell of spearmint always reminds me of the mint that grew wild between the cracks in the cement by the front door step of our farmhouse. Even as a five-year-old, I appreciated its scent — so much better than that of the cow yard aromas!

For decades mint in its many forms has been cultivated for use as flavoring in everything from spearmint gum and minty-fresh mouthwash to mint ice cream and Mint Juleps. Mint tops the list of all flavors used in breath fresheners.

Mint’s number one favorite partner? That would be CHOCOLATE!

Oh! Oh! OREO!!  Not Just A Cookie Any More

First introduced in 1912 in the U.S., more than 500 billion have been sold. Though it is found in more than 100 countries, the Oreo is America’s favorite sandwich cookie, with its creamy sweet white frosting sandwiched between two dark chocolate crispy wafers.

Today’s “original” Oreo recipe is the same as the first ones ever sold in Hoboken, New Jersey – only the design imprinted in the wafers has changed. And we can’t get too much of a good thing — today there are Double Stuffed, Fudge Covered, Halloween and Christmas Oreos, etc. And Oreo bits are found in name brand puddings, ice cream specialties, breakfast cereals, pie crusts, milk shakes, dessert pizzas, and — you guessed it — in taste-tempting candy creations!
